to belong to a startup.
noise° is a paradigm-backed platform for trading on what’s relevant in culture. when i started, its instagram had 400 followers, most of them from crypto.
so i ran the feed as a culture magazine, full of things people feel cool sharing: lost cartoons, forgotten console ads, the stories behind album covers. the product stayed out of the way. product and market news went to stories, where the people who already cared could find it.
17k followers, from 400 in five months
720k likes on the top post, a 2008 street fight between punks and emos. see it
what you share says
something about you.
the posts that traveled furthest made the person sharing them look interesting. passing along a small discovery shows a bit of your taste, which gives people their own reason to share it. some posts started slow and found their audience later, so the habit was to leave a post up and let it circulate before judging it.
a small discovery can be a familiar name somewhere unexpected, like the final fantasy artist behind a new 2hollis cover.
captionthe art on 2hollis’s pirouette comes from someone you may already know through final fantasy: yoshitaka amano. he’s made illustrations and logos for the series since 1987.
the product got
its own films.
the feed stayed about culture. the films have the opposite job: each one starts from something people already do, like saving cards, calling a trend early or arguing about who’s right, and turns it into an action inside the app.
they’re set on black, with big type and a few signal colors. the product only shows up once you know what the person on screen wants.
