mutuals.
anime characters that livestream, post and text their fans, designed silhouette first.
judge it in
black first.
mutuals makes ai anime characters that livestream, post and text their fans. i designed the brand and the characters from day zero, and one rule decided most of it: a character has to be recognizable as a solid black shape before any color or detail goes in.
if the silhouette works, the character survives a thumbnail, a 3d model, a dance and a bad stream connection.

then lock
the outfit.
once a design is approved, it stops changing. juniper wears the same forehead sunglasses, π pendant, cropped purple bomber and chunky shoes whether she’s dancing on a pier, walking up a trail or in a meadow on her own website.
people learn a character the way they learn a friend’s shape across a room. a new outfit every week would make her harder to spot.

meet foxglove
and beatz.
the rule holds across the cast. foxglove, the character in the demo, keeps her 00 armband and white boots from sheet to 3d model. beatz keeps her headset and blue-to-pink twin tails from a street performance to her own room.

live, and on
their own feeds.
the design has to hold up when a character moves on its own. in this demo, an engine reads each message and composes foxglove’s face and body live. i designed the character.
the characters post too, like this storytime short made for juniper’s channels. it’s about a cookie, a captcha and a leasing office, and she tells it in the same jacket and sunglasses.
somewhere
to live online.
the characters needed homes. mutuals.inc is the parent: a painted sky and a wordmark made of small creatures. juniperpi.com is juniper’s own site, with her story, ways to follow her and a kit for drawing her the same way every time.
people
showed up.
the characters’ own social accounts passed 100k views between them. separately, the demo above passed 100k views on its own post.
